While the operating budget almost doubled from 2001 to 2002, its new annual total of $5,000 with just $300 designated for honoraria--is rather sad.
Moreover the 2003 budget temporary instructional budget ($18,345 for three sessionals, with $10,560 for TAships) is also rather miserable.
I see from Michael Stevenson's report, "The President's Agenda: SFU at 40," that some 40% of current faculty and staff will retire within the next decade.
Making the LAS programme into an independent Department, with its own support staff and budget (the annual $5,000 it currently receives under the S/A umbrella is vastly insufficient), would be a good first step.
