Educational Technology and Learning Design (Doctor of Philosophy) Program
Proposed Program Change and Rationale
Both qualitative andquantitative research methods are commonly used in Educational Technology research. As such,
doctoral students in this area require a base level of preparation in both traditions in order to becompetitive for
teaching positions. Since the PhD program in Educational Technology and Learning Design already requires one more
course than several other PhDprograms in the Faculty of Education, we wish to remove the requirement for EDUC
901 or EDUC 902 in order to help students complete in a timely fashion and avoid scheduling difficulties.

Rationale for Proposed EDUC 931-4 and 932-4 Title Change
Effective Fall 2013
Educational Technology and Learning Design is a rapidly evolving field, so it is necessary to regularly
change the content of these two courses. The more generic titles will avoid frequent course title changes
over the lifeof the program.
