    At its December 5, 2012 meeting SCUP reviewed and approved the proposal to suspend admission to the
    Joint Major in Anthropology and Art and Culture Studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts within
    the Faculty
    of Communication, Art and Technology, effective Summer 2013 and dissolve the program
    effective, Fall 2013.
    Motion 1:
    That Senate approve the suspension of admission to the Joint Major in Anthropology and Art and Culture
    Studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts within the Faculty
    of Communication, Art and
    Technology, effective Summer 2013.
    Motion 2:
    That Senate approve and recommend to the Board of Governors the dissolution of the Joint Major in
    Anthropology and Art and Culture Studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts within the Faculty
    of
    Communication, Art and Technology, effective Fall 2013.

    Action undertaken by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies at its meeting of
    November 8, 2012, gives rise to the following recommendations:
    Motion 1:
    That SCUP approve and recommend to Senate the suspension of admission to
    the Joint Major in Anthropology and Art and Culture Studies.
    Motion 2:
    That SCUP approve and recommend to Senate the dissolution of the Joint Major
    in Anthropology and Art and Culture Studies.
    The relevant documentation for review by SCUP is attached.

    The BA inArtandCulture isin theprocess of streamlining thedegree formore flexibility for
    teaching resources and a more focused degree. In the past several years, we have had limited
    interest inthe joint major degree option. The BA will now include courses from Sociology, which
    will eliminate theneed for the joint majors. TheDepartment of Sociology &Anthropology has
    approved the dropping ofthe joint major. We presendy have nostudents enrolled inthe
    Anthropology jointmajor.
