At its December 5, 2012 meeting SCUP reviewed and approved the proposal to suspend admission to the
Joint Major in Sociology and Art and Culture Studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts within the
Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, effective Fall 2013.
Motion:
That Senate approve the suspension of admission to the Joint Major in Sociology and Art and Culture
Studies in the School for the Contemporary Arts within the Faculty of Communication, Art and
Technology, effective Fall 2013.

Action undertaken by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies at its meeting of
November 8, 2012, gives rise to the following recommendations:
Motion 1:
That SCUP approve and recommend to Senate the suspension of admission to
the Joint Major in Sociology and Art and Culture Studies.
The relevant documentation for review by SCUP is attached.

Proposal to Suspend Admissions
The BA inArtand Culture isin theprocess of streamlining thedegree for more flexibility for
teaching resources and amore focused degree. In the past several years, we have had limited
interest inthe joint major degree option. The BA will now include courses from Sociology, which
will eliminate the need for the joint majors. The Department of Sociology &Anthropology has
approved the dropping ofthe joint major. We presently have only one student enrolled in the joint
majorin Sociology.

Presently, one student is enrolled in this jointmajor, and allcoursework will be accessible to
complete the major.

SCA advisors are aware of the remaining student enrolled in theprogram, and will advise so the
student completes the joint major - probably as early as Fall 2013.

the degree as of Summer2013.
