CALENDAR CHANGE FORM
School for the Contemporary Arts
BC 12 Admissions Criteria Change for Fall 2013
SCUS 12-33c (i
Rationale:
The School for the Contemporary Arts is proposing to change the admission
requirements for incoming high school students interested in our programs. In
prior admissions criteria BC 12 applicants were allowed to use one course from the
"List 3" fine-arts list in the calculation of their admission average. This reflected the
work students did in both admissions and scholarships. The criteria changed to
allow the English 12 and 3 provincially examinable courses -and has subsequently
changed to allow other courses to be included in the GPAcalculation.
We would like draw on the precedent of the prior "list 3" criteria to give students
accepted into our BFA/BA programs the ability to use one course related to our
School's disciplines to be used in the calculation their admissions average. This
would mean that students'work would be recognized in subjects that our School
teaches -not just resulting in higher admission averages for prospective students,
but in a more accurate scholarship calculation.
The School currently has an Audition/Interview/Portfolio process for our students
to enter our programs that recognizes the work done in the list ofcourses we
propose.
