Calendar Change, Undergraduate Department, Beedie School of Business
Effective: Spring 2013 Calendar
Summary of Changes:
• Updates to the description of the BusOne program
•
Addition of World Literature courses to lower division requirements
• Titlo changofor Bus 2011
Rationale:
The Beedie School of Business challenges students to achieve their full potential. The program also
provides support to accomplish this with opportunities that enhance the student experience. Much of
this support isdirected to Business students in their 3rd and 4th years. This support is important, but
further support aimed at the first year level may amplify effects of current service levels by engaging
students and acculturating them to the faculty within their first year. Currently, there are a number of
first year events that are held to welcome and engage incoming students to the SFU community. These
events include Meet and Greets, Blueprints, Orientation, Frosh, Week of Welcome, etc. However, these
events are not ongoing and there is a need for a continuing program to help students with their
transition into university, keep them engaged as they progress through their first year at both the
Burnabyand Surrey Campuses and provide them with opportunities to reach their full potential
(academically, personally, and socially).
The addition of
the three World Literature courses (WL101W-3,103W-3, and 104W-3) reflects
changes approved at the May 6,2011 Senate meeting where the addition of World Literature courses
was approved to provide a greater range of W courses for Business requirements, however, this
change was not reflected inthe BusOne program. The name change of Bus 201 was approved by
Senate at the April 2,2012 Senate meeting. Consequently, the calendar description should be
modified to reflect this title change.
The following program will be affected by these changes:
BusOne FirstYear Program
