Educational Change: School Based Implications
Objectives
To increase research knowledge, and insights about factors and processes related to
successful and unsuccessful attempts at curriculum change in education.
To understand the roles of key actors at the school level (principal, teachers, parents) at
the district level (superintendents, consultants), and at provincial levels (government,
universities).
To identify strategies and plans for bringing about effective educational change including
the role of plans, administrative leadership for change, in-service education, monitoring
and evaluation.
Topics
Stages in the change process; roles of teachers, principals superintendents, consultants;
planning; leadership, in-service education, evaluation.
Requirements
Intensive reading of textbook and other assigned material. Preparation of a project paper
based on the examination and analysis, a particular innovation or change project of
interest to the student. Topics to be selected in consultation with the instructor.
