    PT T ( I R TI .T TV
Enrolment will be limited to those with sufficient knowledge of
composition theory and pedagogy. Anyone who completes the
instructor's summer session Advanced Composition course with a
grade of 'B' or better will automatically be eligible; otherwise
enrolment is by permission of the instructor only.
    flRTPCTT\IPS
Participants will put their knowledge of composition theory and
pedagogy into practice by doing an independent project (preferably
in departments or districts where they are also teaching). Thus
they will continue developing their own abilities as teachers
of writing while making contributions to improving the teaching
    of writing in their localities.
    COURSE DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS
Each participant will design and carry out a research, curriculum
development, or teacher training project. The course will meet
weekly at the beginning of the semester to help participants
design valid and useful projects. Thereafter it will meet
less frequently (probably biweekly), in seminar fashion, to
provide participants with a critical perspective on their
developing projects and also with such additional knowledge
as they may need to carry out their projects successfully.
Topics will depend upon participants' needs. Each participant's
grade will be based on the quality of the project (85%) and on
    seminar participation (15%).
