    COURSE DESCRIPTION:
    This course has been designed to introduce teachers to concepts and practices
    related to the nature and nurture of gifted potential in educational settings.
    Participants will meet with gifted students, as well as collecting the knowledge and
    skills to meet their needs.
    OBJECTIVES:
    Participants in this course will be able to:
    1.
    Design learning experiences appropriate for highly able learners in the regular
    classroom or special programs which enhance thinking and learning skills
    within and across curriculum areas.
    2.
    Recognize behavioral characteristics of gifted students (intellectual, academic,
    creative, social and artistic).
    3.
    Describe instruments and procedures necessary in the design of a process for
    selecting students for gifted programs.
    4.
    Describe the nature of giftedness in terms of current conceptions and
    definitions.
    5.
    Discuss the rationale and historical foundations for services to gifted students.
    6.
    Identify the needs of special groups within the gifted, i.e., underachievers,
    girls, rural gifted.
