OBJECTIVES
This course will examine the application of Developmental Drama
techniques to the curriculum of the elementary classroom. We will
also look at the new Fine Arts Curriculum and how to implement it
without sacrificing time from other subject areas.
Students will follow a sequential program and participate in a variety
of games and exercises leading towards the "creative classroom' by
following this program designed to encourage group trust and positive
action participants will gradually build upon their own confidence and
therefore need not be concerned about a lack of previous experience in
this field.
OUTLINE OF TOPICS
1. Classroom Management.
Drama techniques to induce a positive classroom atmosphere.
2.
Beginnings.
Concentration and guided imagery as catalyst to the creative
process.
3.
Group Dynamics.
Co-operation and trust exercises.
4.
Kinesthetics and problem solving.
Movement, mask, and mine.
5.
Speech and problem-solving.
Articulation, storytelling, listening skills.
6.. Drama as methodology.
Application of creative process to curricula.
7. Creativity as Education.
Possibilities for the future.
TYPICAL REQUIREMENTS
Students will be required to:
1.
participate in workshop activities.
2.
complete a journal of observation and rersearch.
3.
design a curriculum based project utilizing the approach of this
course.*
4.
complete a book report based on the reading list.
5.
Adapt or create a theatre game and present it to the class.
