    Course Description:
    The course will provide a comprehensive introduction to law and the legal
    process. The basic divisions or components of the law will be examined, including:
    (1) civil law (e.g. torts, contracts, property); (2) criminal law and procedure;
    (3) constitutional law; (4) family law; (5) administrative law, and; (6) consumer
    law. Special emphasis will be placed on recent changes in the Canadian legal and
    constitutional system, especially as they pertain to major issues facing Canadian
    educators. The course will also offer a basic survey of legal history, legal research
    skills, and case law technique.
    Prerequisite:
    Education 401/2 or the equivalent of a first year practicum.

    Course Organization:
    Two 4-hour class meetings per week which will include lectures, class
    discussion and audio visual presentations.
    Course Requirements:
    Students will be graded on class participation (30%), a class report (30%)
    and a final take home exam (40%).
