    Simon Fraser University and School District #21+ have cooperatively designed
    a new credit course in analysis of curriculum and instruction. This
    course will run concurrently with the extended practicum (Education
    1+05)
    offered as part of S.F.U.'s teacher education program in Kamloops. The
    principal intent of the course is to provide practising teachers with
    specific skills and conceptual understanding fundamental to their role
    in teacher education.
    The course will be open to:
    1)
    teachers who will be sponsoring an S.F.U. student practicum
    beginning January
    1984.
    2)
    other practising certified teachers who with their principal's
    approval can meet the requirements of the course as specified
    below.
    COURSE DESCRIPTION:
    The format will involve investigation into five areas of study:
    I)
    ?
    Introductory Study: Examination of teacher effectiveness;
    models of learning in teacher education; investigation of
    S.F.U. model.
    2) Developmental Supervision: Study and practice of formal and
    informal techniques of teacher supervision. Techniques will
    be practised in home classrooms with a student teacher, or
    classrooms of a collieague.
    3)
    Counselling and Communication Skills: The study of basic problem
    solving models, interaction skills and readings in communication
    and interpersonal relations theory. Again, participants will
    be expected to implement learnings in their school setting.
    14)
    Models of Planning/Curriculum Development: Examination of
    different planning models; formulation of a personal model which
    can be implemented in the classroom during the semester (e.g.
    a unit plan developed independently or collaboratively with an
    Education 1+05 student teacher).

    Personal Study: Using a self-directed learning model, participants
    will pursue an area of Interest found within the topics listed
    above.
    COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
    1) Attendance and participation in all scheduled sessions.
    2)' Practising/implementing theoretical learnings in the classroom
    with student teachers (or colleagues) and pupils.
    3) Readings and self-directed projects.

    This course will also be offered as a graduate level course,
    Education 845-3.
    Individuals not presently registered in a Master's program at
    S.F.U. may apply to take this course under the Special Student
    status. Please note that students applying under this category
    should have an undergraduate degree with a 3.0 grade point
    average, and that credit will not be applied to any future
    graduate degree at S.F.U.

    - CONTINUING students (students who have completed S.F.U. courses within the last
    three semesters).
    - NEW STUDENTS (and FORMER STUDENTS requiring Re-Admission), must complete an
    Application form and Registration form, providing all official transcripts.
    Students who have not been admitted to the University may be considered if
    they bring their official academic records to the in-person registration. The
    Admissions Office will make a final decision once the documents are reèeived on
    campus. Students seeking admission to the University will be assessed an
    evaluation fee of $25.00 (separate cheque payable to Simon Fraser University)
    for non-B.C. documents.
