PREREQUISITE:

DESCRIPTION
In this course, students develop a understanding of information and communication technologies in
education and learn how to integrate these technologies into classroom settings. Information and
Communication Technologies studied will have opportunity for direct application to meet learning
outcomes as prescribed by the B.C. Curriculum.
Students enrolled in this course should be interested in developing personal 21" Century Skills as
well as planning for develop of student
21St
Century Skills. Information and Communication
Technologies are studied through their application to student learning opportunities.
This course is not an introductory computing course or a training course in the use of educational
software. While it is expected that students will learn new applications during the course, a basic
level of computer literacy is assumed.
GOALS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Critically assess skills for success in

century as defined by ISTE - NETS-S

develop appropriate models and methods for the implementation and management of
information and communication technologies (ICT) in educational settings.

Assess the value of a variety of ICT tools that are available, their present and potential
impact on learning.
4. Explore curricular connections relating to ICT within Ministry of Education IRPs.

Develop minimal proficiency in a range of ICT tools that are available.
Requirements
You will need to have reliable access to internet on a regular basis.
Regular attendance

online participation. A great deal of the learning in this course takes place
through tutorials and small group discussions thus attendance is necessary..
You will need to schedule either time in the computer lab to work on your own projects or time with
your own resources.
There will be some assignments that will require specific software applications and technical
support available in the CET (Centre for Educational Technology). You will need to schedule your
work time out side of class time in relation to the posted hours of the CET. Students who come to
campus only one day a week and do not have adequate computer access at home or work may find
it very difficult to complete the course successfully.

Minimum 1 GB USB Flash Drive and GMail account
Course Readings
There is no required course text. There will be at least 1 article to read each week; however, the
articles will be posted to the course website.
