DESCRIPTION
In this course, students will develop a critical understanding of information technologies in
education and learn how to integrate these technologies into classrooms settings. Emphasis is on
teaching strategies and methods as they complement the guidelines set forth in the BC curriculum.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
In this course students will:
• develop appropriate models and methods for the implementation and management of
information and communication technologies (ICT) in educational settings
• critically evaluate available information and communication technologies as they are used in
teaching and learning including multimedia, WWW resources, email and conferencing software
• analyze and implement integrated resource packages and resource guidelines published by the
Ministry of Education
• consider environmental and social factors influencing the planning and implementation of IT
within different educational contexts
REQUIREMENTS
• Internet access. You will
need to have Internet access to complete many of the assignments in this
course. Therefore, you must have Internet access at home or be on campus at least 2-3 times
during the week.
• Regular attendance.
Because a great deal of the learning in this course takes place through tutorials
and small group, face-to-face discussion, attendance will be taken in class each class and included
in your participation mark.
• Time on your own in our computer lab.
There will be some assignments that will require specific
software applications and technical support available in the Faculty of Educations Centre for
Educational Technology (CET). You will, therefore, need to schedule time to work in the CET
outside of class time. Students who come to campus only one day each week may find it very
difficult to complete the course successfully.
Students will complete the following course assignments:
1.
Develop and present curriculum and implementation projects using ICT - 50%
2.
Prepare a written evaluation of educational web resources - 25%
3.
Weekly in-class and online activities and participation - 25%
