PREREQUISITE:
Educ. 401/402. (Basic knowledge of computers is an asset.)
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will develop a critical understanding of the role of computers in education and will
learn how computers can be used to enhance learning. Education 482 focuses on learning about
computers and software, strategies for incorporating technology in the classroom, and designing
practical learning experiences.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Students will complete:
1.
a) Two papers focusing on critical discussion of educational value of computers in schools.
b) Assessment of specific technology; its use in teaching/learning, its future importance to
society.
2.
a) Demonstration of learning in the form of a computer developed instructional tool.
b) A curriculum unit plan using an integrated approach to technology in the classroom.
3.
On going participation in telecommunications-based activities.
VENUE:
Saturday sessions at the TeleLearning Centre will provide face to face interaction and hands-on
instruction and practise. Computer conferencing and/or audioconferencing will enhance
instruction using computers in the classroom. Focus will be on Claris Works, Hypercard,
telecommunication software, and other useful educational tools.
