COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this course, you will investigate existing research on second language (L2) learning and instruction.
As well, you will develop practical strategies that enable you to cover curriculum while stimulating L2
growth in the French as a Second Language classroom.
TOPICS
• Second language acquisition theory
• Examination of beliefs about teaching and learning French as a Second Language
• Strategies /Activities which promote L2 learning
• Prescribed Learning Outcomes in the BC Curriculum
OBJECTIVES
• To review the current research regarding second language learning
• To examine and develop your own approach to teaching/ learning French as a Second Language
• To build a repertoire of practical skills and L2 activities
• To develop strategies for covering curriculum that stimulate L2 learning in the FSL classroom
REQUIREMENTS
• Article critique and presentation
• Participation in an online exchange on the Internet (You must have access to an Internet/email
account.)
• Mini-presentation of an L2 activity
• Group project (participation, product and presentation)
