COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this course, you will investigate existing research on second language learning and instruction.
As well, you will develop practical strategies that enable you to cover curriculum while
stimulating L2 growth in the French as a Second Language classroom.
TOPICS
• Second language acquisition
• Approaches to teaching a second language
• Self-examination of beliefs about teaching French as a Second Language
• Elements of the second language classroom
• Activities which promote L2 learning
• Prescribed Learning Outcomes in the BC Curriculum
OBJECTIVES
• To examine and develop your own approach to teaching French as a Second Language.
• To build a repertoire of practical skills, second language activities and curriculum materials.
• To develop strategies for covering curriculum that stimulate L2 learning in the FSL classroom.
• To acquire an ability to create, reflect on and improve your own teaching practices.
• To analyse the current research on second language learning and instruction.
REQUIREMENTS

Participation in class discussions and mini-presentations (40%)
2. Personal journal (15%)

Two essays (5% and 15%)
4.
Final Project (25%)
