PREREQUISITE

EDUC 401i402 and FREN 206. Instruction given in French & English.

CALENDAR DESCRIPTION

This course deals with a variety of approaches, teaching strategies and curricula for teaching

French as a second language in elementary and secondary schools.

OBJECTIVES

The participant will acquire a better understanding of the theories, approaches and

methodology in the teaching of French as a second language; study aspects and application of

current curriculum (linguistic and cultural) and course materials used in programs for

French as a second language in British Columbia; study and practise teaching techniques;

acquire skills in evaluating second language teaching and learning. The focus will be on

practical application of the above. As well, there will be a component to improve linguistic

competence and gain cultural awareness in a francophone environment.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Attendance and participation

Oral presentations based on teaching one or more of the communication skills

Design of a unit plan based on an authentic document

Report on a teaching method

Create a portfolio of documents & resources
