PREREQUISITE
Educ. 401/402 or equivalent. Instruction given in French and English. Knowledge of French
at least equivalent to Fr.206 or with permission of the instructor.
CALENDAR DESCRIPTION
This course deals with a variety of approaches, teaching strategies and curricula for teaching
French as a second language in elementary schools.
OBJECTIVES
The participant will acquire a better understanding of the theories, approaches and
methodology in the teaching of French as a second language; study aspects and application of
current curriculum (linguistic and cultural) and course materials used in programs for
French as a second language in British Columbia; study and practise teaching techniques;
acquire skills in evaluating second language teaching and learning. The focus will be on
practical application of the above. As well, there will be a component to improve linguistic
competence and gain cultural awareness in a francophone environment.
