Mornings:

French as a second
language methodology and teaching
techniques in
elementary and secondary schools.
Lunch:

informal setting.

Objectives:
A.
Education 480 The participant will acquire a better understanding of
the theories and methodology in the teaching of French as a second
language; study aspects and application of current curriculum (linguistic
and cultural) and course materials used in French as a second language
programs in British Columbia; study and practise teaching techniques;
acquire skills in evaluating second language teaching and learning.
The focus will be on practical application of the above.
B.
Practical French (non-credit) and Socio cultural activities The
participant will acquire a better French fluency through practical
French language classes and conversation; study aspects of French
culture through socio-cultural activities; prepare teaching materials
for use in the classroom.

To provide participants with experiences in which to apply and discuss
the above objectives, the following activities will be used:
1. Lectures

Discussion and question periods

Workshops and materials development
5.
Mini-lessons, oral presentations, small group tasks
6. Socio-cultural activities.

Course Requirements:
The participant is required to attend and participate in all activities
of the course as listed in Résumé of Activities; complete all
assignments as listed in Evaluation; demonstrate competency in all
activities and assignments; demonstrate competency in comprehension and
speaking of French as is necessary for teaching a mini-lesson;
participating in discussions and giving oral presentations.

(EDUC 480 - mornings only)
There will not be a final examination. Final grades are determined
by the instructors based on the quality of all course requirements.

Any participant who cannot demonstrate the French language skills
necessary to complete the above requirements at a satisfactory level,
will be so advised during the first week of the course.
Students are also required to assess their work and to discuss a
self-evaluation with the instructor during an interview.
