    EDUCATION COURSES FOR FRENCH TEACHERS
    SUMMER AND FALL 1983 - SPRING 1984
    EDUCATION 480-4: DESIGNS FOR LEARNING: FRENCH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
    Students will explore various approaches to teaching French as a second
    language (also called "Basic French"). They will also develop teaching
    strategies and materials at various levels using published programs
    commonly used in B.C. as resource documents.
    1st Option: July 4 - July 29. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to
    11:15 a.m. Four credits.
    2nd Option: July 4 - July 29. Monday to Friday. May be taken as
    part of the "Institut de francais 1983" program for
    credit or non-credit. The Institut de français program
    Involves all day and evening activities.
    3rd Option: Spring 1984. From January to April. One evening a week.
    Four credits.
    EDUCATION 481-4: DES1CNS FOR LEARNING: FRENCH IMMERSION AND PROGLthNME-
    CADRE DE FRANCAIS
    History, definition and growth of French programs. Emphasis on four
    skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Error analysis,
    teaching techniques and development of activity centres.
    1st Option: July 4 - July 29. Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to
    11:15 a.m. Four credits..
    2nd Option: July 4 - July 29. Monday to Friday. May be taken as
    part of the "Institut de français 1983" program for
    credit or non-credit. The Institut de français program
    involves all day and evening activities.
    3rd Option: Fall 1983. From September to December. One evening a
    week. Four credits.
    EDUCATION 808-5: CONTEMPORARY RESEARCH AND CLASSROOM PRACTICES IN FRENCH
    IMMERSION
    The aim of this course is to examine studies, reports and articles relating
    to French Immersion methodology, program evaluation, curriculum needs and
    administration of French programs. Special, attention Is given to the
    possible application From research findings.
    Spring 1984. From January to April.. One evening a week. Five credits.
    Prerequisite: 481 or equivalent.
