OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE
This course considers the nature and direction of physical education programs for the
primary and intermediate grades in British Columbia schools. The curricular
organizing principles of the course are three-fold:
1.
To provide teachers with a pedagogical understanding of curriculum design, and
program development.
2.
To examine various practical applications of the theoretical perspective listed above.
3.
To explore a narrative research approach which challenges teachers to extend their
professional development in physical education.
CURRICULAR CONTENT
Lectures on the pedagogical foundations of physical education will be complemented by the
treatment of such topics as movement education, adventure education, integrating
physical education with other school subjects, and the curricular dimensions of a quality
physical education program.
