    Designs For Learning: Physical Education
    Instructor: Dr. G. Kirchner
    Class Schedule: Wednesdays, 3:30 - 7:20 p.m.

    Prerequisite: Education 401/402
    This course is designed to introduce practicing teachers to a variety
    of new content and teaching strategies currently used in the elementary
    school physical education program. The course will include demonstration
    lessQns, lecture and/or workshop sessions and bi-weekly in-school and
    written assignments. The course will emphasize the following topics:
    1.
    Teaching creative and cooperative games.
    2.
    Blending gymnastic and movement education programs.
    3.
    Integrating Physical Education with other subject areas.
    4.
    Teaching rhythmics and creative folk dance.
    5.
    Teaching active health to children.
    Bi-Weekly Assignments:
    During the twb weeks between the on-site days, teachers will be
    assigned three tasks:
    1) previewing films
    2)
    planning, teaching and evaluating three sequential lessons
    3)
    pre-reading chapters relating to the next topic.
    Evaluation
    Evaluation will be based upon film critiques and the design, present-
    ation and evaluation of five sets of sequential lessons.

    CONTINUING STUDENT:
    Students who have completed S.F.U. courses within the last three semesters, will be
    issued a Notification of Intent Card from the Registrar's Office. This card should be
    completed and returned to the Registrar's Office. This card should be completed and
    returned to the Registrar's Office by November 9 which will ensure that a Pre-registration
    package is forwarded to you.
    NEW STUDENT and FORMER STUDENT REQUIRING RE-ADMISSION:
    New students to the University and students who have not completed S.F.U. courses
    within the last three semesters. An Application for Admission or Re-Admission accompanied
    by official transcripts must be submitted to the Registrar's Office by November 9 for
    Pre-registration or by December 6 for In-person Registration. Please note that a fee of
    $25.00 is assessed all applicants whose academic records in whole or in part, originate
    outside of the Province of British Columbia.
