    DESIGNS FOR LEARNING: PHYSICAL EDUCATION

    PREREQUISITE: Education 401/402
    This course is designed to introduce practicing teachers to
    a variety of new content and our teaching strategies currently used
    in the elementary school physical education program. The course
    will include demonstration lessons, lecture'and/or workshop sessions
    and bi-weekly in-school and written assignments. The course will
    emphasize the following topics:
    1.
    Teaching creative and
    cooperative games.
    2. Blending gymnastic and
    movement education programs.
    3. Integrating Physical Education
    with other subject areas.
    4. Teaching rhythmics and
    creative folk dance.
    S. Teaching active health
    to children.
    Bi-Weekly Assignments:
    During the two weeks between the on-site days, teachers will
    be assigned three tasks:
    1) previewing films
    2)
    planning, teaching and evaluating three sequential lessons
    3) pre-reading chapters relating to;:the next topic.
    Evaluation
    Evaluation will be based upon film critiques and the design,
    presentation and evaluation of five sets of sequential lessons.
