Through listening activities, films, readings and creative exercises,
the students will become familiar with, and develop competencies in the
areas of music mentioned below. In addition to learning to utilize these
concepts in the classroom, it is hoped that the individual will begin to
feel comfortable with experiencing music and develop both a deepening
enjoyment of music and means to integrate music into everday life.
COURSE CONTENT:
- methodologies of Carl Orff Kodaly, Mary Helen Richards
- choral techniques
- creative movement and dance techniques
- experimental music techniques
- multi-cultural experience with music as a focal point
- knowledge of available texts and materials for the elementary music
classroom

Regular attendance, participation in all activities, and familiarization
of handouts and readings is essential. A basic literacy in music is helpful.
EVALUATION
Evaluation will include the following:
-
,a short musical composition based on parameters covered in class
- a group project creatively integrating music with other curriculum areas
- an individual teaching lesson presented to a small group, with
accompanying unit outline
- a written research assignment on a topic to be advised.
