COURSE DESCRIPTION
* To become familiar with the requirements of the B.C. visual arts curriculum and new IRP's.
* To develop an understanding of the elements and principles of design.
* To become familiar with Canadian artists and traditions.
* To build a portfolio through hands-on art making.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
• Development of an art portfolio and journal - 40%
• Development of an art unit - 30%
• Critique of gallery artwork - 15%
• Short presentation/ paper - 15%
COURSE CONTENT
Goals of art education; responses to art; contemporary issues, including multiculturalism, integration, visual literacy, art
and the environment; hands on experiences with a variety of media and techniques; advocacy; art history; evaluation.
