COURSE DESCRIPTION

The goal of this course is threefold. It is, first, to increase participants awareness of art as it has, does, and could

manifest itself in classrooms; as well as manifestations of itself around all us, everyday, and in history. It is, second, to

provide exploratory experiences in the making of art that can be integrated into each participant's own emerging

curriculums. And, it is third, to increase appreciation and articulation as to the nature of what art is, has been, and

could be.

OBJECTIVES

1) Participation: in weekly reflections on readings - a chapter a week from each

of the required readings - and in exploratory projects....................................................................................25%

2)

Weekly submissions of tangible contributions to individual "Sense and Idea Journals"

approximating a page each and taking any form relevant to participants.....................................................50%

3)

Presentation of an idea, skill, etc. of significance to the presenter that he or she

hasoriginated or individualized .................................................................................................................25%

REQUIREMENTS

* May 20th's class will be replaced by a V.A.G. workshop extending the Group of Seven show and can be attended

individually or as a class.

** Alternative proposals to those above can be negotiated for any (or all) parts of the proposed requirements and a

midterm of evaluation of the course's success in meeting its own goals as well as the goals of participants will be

undertaken.
