Designs for Learning/Art is
designed to introduce the generalist
and the specialist to the theory and principles of art education. Topics to be
explored will include discipline based art education, an interactive approach
to art history and art works, and the developmental stages of children in art.
Emphasis will be placed on familiarizing the participants with the new visual
art curriculum guide through hands on experiences and the development of
a unit plan. Materials and processes explored will be those that are within the
range of possibility for elementary and secondary teachers. Experience in art
is not necessary as part of the goal of the program is to give non-specialists the
confidence to plan and teach art, as well as integrate it with other subject
areas. Participants will also complete a visual literacy assignment that will
familiarize them with a broad range of materials and processes.
