PREREQUISITE:
Educ 401/402, or equivalent.
DESCRIPTION
This course introduces students to the ideas, practicalities, and
initiatives that underpin the teaching of visual art.
OBJECTIVES
The purpose of the course is:
1. To familiarize students with the requirements of the BC
curriculum, the Year 2000 and other concerns currently affecting
art education.
2.
To enable students to develop programs in art for particular
groups of students as required.
OUTLINE OF TOPICS
Aims of art education; key concepts; BC curriculum; making and
appreciating art; art history; children and art; gallery visit; hands-on
experience with art media; computer art; photography and video;
multicultural art; planning and teaching; evaluation; individual
programs; the role of imagination in teaching; some controversies;
integrating the arts.
