PREREQUISITE:
Education 4011402 or the equivalent.
The students will:
- examine major trends in art education
- become familiar with the requirements of the B.C. Fine Arts Curriculum
- be able to develop programs in art education suitable for a chosen age
group
- survey methods of viewing and responding to visual imagery as
appropriate to elementary teaching
OUTLINE OF TOPICS
The course will focus on the B.C. Art Curriculum; philosophy and goals of
art education, rationale for teaching, curriculum models, children's
artistic development, responding to art; an overview of art media and
techniques; developing resources for teaching art/building a personal
portfolio. Special emphasis will be placed on the development of imagery
through hands-on experiences with art media and techniques. No prior
experience in art is required for the course.
