DESIGNS FOR LEARNING: ART
PREREQUISITE:
Educ. 401-402 or equivalent.
OBJECTIVES:
• The course is designed as an introduction to the teaching of art in schools; no prior
experience with art is required.
• The student will become familiar with the B. C. Elementary and/or Secondary Art Curricula
and will be able to develop art units based on art curriculum requirements.
• Major trends in art education today will be examined through assigned readings and class
discussion.
• Special emphasis will be placed on the development of imagery through hands-on
experiences with art media and techniques.
OUTLINE OF TOPICS:
The course will focus on the B. C. Art Curriculum as; philosophy and goals of art education
today; development of curriculum models with particular attention to responding to art: an
overview of art media and techniques; developing resources for teaching art/building a
personal portfolio.
