OBJECTIVES:
It is intended that students will:
- develop an understanding of the constraints that creativity and response in art
place on the curriculum
- become familiar with the requirements of the B. C. Fine Arts curriculum guide
- be able to develop programs in art education suitable for a chosen age group
The course will focus on:
The concept of art: expressiveness and form; the concerns and aims of art education;
rationale for teaching; curriculum models; children's artistic development; the B. C.
curriculum for art; creating art: a review of media and techniques; responding to art:
making and defending critical judgments; developing art lessons: focusing on themes,
interests, ability levels, media; new curriculum materials.
