EDUCATION 477-4: DESIGNS FOR LEARNING: ART

OBJECTIVES:
1.
The course is designed as an introduction to the teaching of art in schools; no
prior experience with art is required.
2.
The student will become familiar with the B.C. Elementary and/or Secondary
Art Curricula and will be able to develop art units based on art curriculum
requirements.
3.
Major trends in art education today will be examined through assigned readings
and class discussion.
4.
Special emphasis will be placed on the development of imagery through hands-
on experiences with art media and techniques.
The course will focus on the B.C. Art Curriculums; philosophy and goals of art
education today; development of curriculum models with particular attention to
responding to art; an overview of art media and techniques; developing resources for
teaching art/building a personal portfolio.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

A research paper based on readings (4-6 pages).

Objectives:
This course is designed as an introduction to teaching art in the
schools and should be of interest to teachers.. The course will look
at both practical activities and major concerns in art education
today..
Special emphasis will be placed on the development of imagery and
thematic units which will incorporate the basic components of the B.C.
Art Curriculums.
Eligibility: No prior experience with art is required for this
course.
