    OBJECTIVES:
    This course is designed as an introduction to teaching art in the schools and
    should be of interest to students and teachers. The course will look at both
    practical activities and major concerns in art education today.
    Special emphasis will be placed on the development of imagery and thematic units
    which will incorporate the basic components of the B.C. Art Curriculums.
    ELIGIRTLTTY
    No prior experience with art is required for this course.
    OUTLINE OF TOPICS:
    1.
    Overview of the history and philosophy of art education.
    2. Stages of child development.
    3.
    Theme development: sources of imagery.
    4.
    The visual elements.
    5.
    Art criticism.
    6.
    Multi-cultural and integrated art.
    7.
    Developing a personal teaching model.
    8.
    Resources for teaching art/building a personal file.
    COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
    1.
    Participation in class activities/projects/discussion.
    2.
    Brief critique of a work of art after art gallery field trip.
    3.
    An art unit plan for a specific grade level.
    4.
    Art activity folder or personal art log book.
