    Education 477-4 is an introduction to teaching art in the
    schools. The course should be of interest to students and teachers
    who would like to explore the nature of art, the role of art in
    education, and major approaches to teaching and learning in the
    visual arts. Through seminars, small-group discussion, and practical
    exercises, the course will involve students in selecting and designing
    their own approaches to teaching art. No prior experience with art
    is required for the course.

    Course Requirements
    - Participation in discussion and activities, and completion of
    assigned readings.
    - Midterm take-home exam concerned with approaches to art education
    discussed in lectures.
    - A brief paper in response to a field trip to a museum or art gallery.
    -. A 5-7 page final paper, applying ideas in the course to a teaching situation
    in which you have a particular interest.
