    Education 477 is a course which is concerned with developing an understanding of
    the creative process, using the Visual Arts as the vehicle for expression.
    Students will be involved with a number of class projects based on developing an
    awareness and understanding of the art elements. I would hope, this practical
    approach, coupled with an understanding of lesson preparation and evaluation
    will enable the teacher to approach the instruction of the Visual Arts in a
    confident manner. Experience in making art is not a pre-requisite for this
    course.

    Personal confidence in self-expression.

    Awareness of the creative process.
    D.
    Understanding of visual artskills.
    E.
    Understanding of media usage and it's potential for experimentation.
    F.
    A creative approach to visual art instruction.
    G.
    Awareness of the visual arts as part of our society.
    H.
    Awareness of a correlative approach to learning.
    I.
    Understanding of curriculum development and evaluation.
    J.
    Awareness of aesthetics.
    K.
    Understanding of a developmental approach to learning.
    Course Requirements:
    A.
    Studio experience, with emphasis on participation in discussion and practical
    work.
    B.
    A complete written lesson plan beginning with the rationale for the choice
    of lesson, preparation, motivation, instruction, laboratory situation,
    participation with students, and evaluation.
    C.
    Correlative project (group). Developing a lesson, involved with more than
    one phase of the arts. Each student will be part of a group and will be
    required to submit a written outline. The lesson will be presented to the
    class.
    D.
    A complete notebook - composed of classnotes, an outline for correlative
    project, written lesson plans, notes of required reading and notes from
    studio participation.
    Required reading:
    Students will be responsible for reading Elliot Eisner's book and use the recommended
    reading list for reference, class discussion and written assignments.
