DESIGNS FOR LEARNING: MATHEMATICS

Elementary

This course is intended for teachers who already teach in the elementary

grades as well as prospective teachers. It covers a wide range of issues

concerning the teaching of mathematics to young children related to the

changes in the curriculum for British Columbia. The five main units are

entitled: Mathematics in Elementary Classrooms, Numbers,

Measurement and Data Analysis, Geometry, and the Mathematics

Curriculum.

PREREQUISITE: EDUC 4011402.

PLEASE NOTE:

Access to a VCR is required.

COURSE REQUIRE1U2qTS:

There will be 5 assignments worth 18% each, and a portfolio worth 10%. Please

note that some assignments will require working with children. Students who do

not have their own classrooms must make arrangements., to have access to a

small number of children (perhaps 3 or 4) of the appropriate age group.
