DESIGNS-FOR LEARNING: MATHEMATICS

This course is intended for teachers who already teach in the primary grades as

well as prospective teachers. It covers a wide range of issues concerning the

teaching of mathematics to young children related to the changes in the

curriculum for British Columbia. The five main units are entitled: Mathematics

in Primary Classrooms, Numbers, Measurement and Data Analysis, Geometry,

and a brief look at Assessment.

PREREQUISITE:

EDUC 401/402.

REQUIRED TEXT:

Primary Program Foundation Document CG 0279. Ministry of Education, B. C.,

1991.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Five written assignments involving your own mathematical activity and reflection

as well as classroom-based work.
