    Elementary Mathematics
    This course Is designed for elementary school teachers, pro-
    spective or active, who wish to explore the fundamentals of the
    learning/teaching process as it applies to mathematics. The usual
    content topics of the elementary school mathematics curriculum will
    be examined both from a methodological perspective (eg. how do you
    teach fractions, or multiplication? and so on...), and from the view-
    point of the mathematics behind these topics (eg. what are fractions,
    what is multiplication? and so on
    The course will be operated in a workshop fashion with students
    having the opportunity to
    a)
    become familiar with and confident in using a variety of
    manipulative aids such as rods, logic blocks, geo-boards,
    and soon.. •
    b)
    engage in discussion of the how and why of teaching mathe-
    matics,
    c)
    explore the realities of children's learning powers and
    learning patterns,
    d)
    practice subordinating their teaching to the learning of
    their colleagues.
    Individual instructors will make known the requirements for their
    particular group(s) at the first meeting of the class.
