DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:
This course will focus on an integrated, student-centered, experiential approach
to secondary English education. Special attention will be focussed on:
group interaction
writing process
individual learning patterns
evaluation procedures
literature teaching
The course will focus on the principles and practices which instill the love of
learning and independent thinking in the secondary English classroom.
OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTATIONS:
This course will actively ergage students in meeting these objectives:
1. Become familiar with tlese aspects of writing process:
a. focussing
b.
audience awarene,s
c. revision
2. Complete two writing assignments to a point considered satisfactory by the
instructors.
3. Participate in a variety of prescribed reading activities to discuss major
issues facing today's English teacher.
4. Develop 3 activities us

ng assigned and self selected literature.
5. Examine measuremen' and evaluation in the language arts classroom, and
evaluate one another's work and several pieces presented in class.

6. Consider language arts as an interactive and personal process of
developing thought and language, demonstated by acting in a professional
manner to their peers in class and during seminars.
8. Use knowledge of learning style to improve questioning strategies.
