    OBJECTIVES:
    This course will provide an opportunity for the student
    teacher/teacher to:
    - examine prevalent approaches to Language Arts teaching
    - explore planning, classroom practices and evaluation ideas
    in each topic area
    - develop strategies and materials for classroom use in
    reading, writing and oral language development
    - consider Language Arts as an interactive process of
    developing thought and language
    OUTLINE OF TOPICS:

    Thought and language/image and ward
    2.. Learning to read: approaches, materialsq children's
    literature
    3..
    Learning to write: writing process, conventions
    (spelling, punctuation, usage)
    4..
    Effective oral communication: listening and speaking,
    group discussion
    5..
    Expressive use of language: drama, storytelling,
    poetry, films
    REQUIREMENTS:
    - attend and participate
    - complete assigned readings in each topic area
    - complete a written assignment for each topic area
    - prepare examples of classroom activities in each topic
    area
    ELIGIBILITY: Education 401/402
