    This course is offered to students and practicing teachers who wish to explore that
    language communication-based approach to learning called the Langauge Arts.
    The course is designed to introduce you to planning for learning, creating learning
    environments, and developing strategies, techniques, and materials in the Language
    Arts in the elementary school.
    The course will comprise a broad range of experiences organized in such a way as to
    model a student-centered approach and maximize individualization of learning.
    OUTLINE OF TOPICS:
    Some of the topics which may be explored, according to group interest and need, include:
    -using functional and environmental experiences
    -using children's literature
    -establishing priorities
    in
    language arts curriculum
    -the art science of planning a student-centered language arts program
    -the relationship of reading and writing to aural-oral aspects, language
    arts and the relationship of all aspects to thinking and creativity
    -using language arts for self-expression and communication with others
    METHOD:
    The basic method will be experiential, using practice or expressive activities and
    inquiring, using discussion or clarification.

    Activities may include seminar.discussions, small-group work, practice work, presentations,
    creative processing and other which seem suitable.
    TYPICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Attendance and participation in all parts of the course; completion of readings and task
    assignments; demonstration of achievement of certain selected competencies.
