Range of Topics
The course is designed to introduce students and practising teachers to
planning for learning; creating learning environments, and developing
teaching strategies, techniques and materials in the teaching of language
arts in the elementary school. The following areas will be explored through
reading, workshops and seminars, and field activities:
A. Language growth and development in children.
B. Experiences in the classroom leading to language growth and development:

poetry etc.
C. Teaching strategies (e.g. the open classroom, individualization, integration
with other areas of the curriculum, etc.); techniques (e.g. working with
large groups, small groups, individuals, experiences, study and skill
techniques, expressive activities, etc.) and materials.
D. Curriculum development - diagnosis, objective, planning, implementaion
and evaluation.
