COURSE DESCRIPTION
EDUC 471 - 4 will examine the theoretical, practical and coiiceptual complexity of curriculum
development within a contemporary educational and social
/
context. The course will pay special
attention to the historical, social and political forces that influence curriculum development including
class, gender, race and corporate dynamics. Given its current popularity in education, the discourse
surrounding "skill talk" will also be examined to better understand its ideological, conceptual and
pedagogical implications. Working in groups, we will also embark on a collaborative effort to
develop the procedural and content knowledge' required for successful curriculum development.
Other curriculum areas may be explored based on student interest and suggestions.
