    Calendar Description
    Explorations of curriculum and processes of development with applications at different grade levels
    and in several subject areas. Prerequisite 60 hours of credit.
    Objectives
    1.
    To develop an understanding of the broad concerns of curriculum theory
    which serve to guide practical curriculum development.
    2.
    To enable students to develop curricula for classroom use in chosen areas
    of interest.
    Outline of Top
    The course will focus on the influence of the needs of the learner and society and perceptions of the
    aims of education and schooling on curriculum design. The problem of reconciling students
    differing abilities, alternative models for currriculum planning, the selection of objectives and
    content--including a consideration of the cognitive and aesthetic components, the importance of
    language, appropriate sequencing and methods of teaching will be examined. Attention will be given
    to the evaluation of curriculum effectiveness and to the judging of the educational value of
    innovative ideas. Through-out, stress will be placed on the acquisition of the concepts necessary to
    guide critical questioning and sound practice.

    proposal or theoretical position
