CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: THEORY AND PRACTICE

The purpose of Education 471 is to familiarize students with the
major curriculum development orientations they
will
encounter as
practitioners. The point of view taken will be that of the classroom
teacher who must implement, adapt, and develop curricula within the
context of the school and the classroom.
Students will be assigned preparatory reading for each class
session. In addition students will be required to write two short
papers (750 - 1000 words) on some aspect of the course work. These
papers will serve as a basis for classroom discussion.
As a final ssignment students will prepare a critical analysis on
one of the curriculum orientations discussed during the course.
