OBJECTIVES
In this course you will learn to prepare lessons for the Teaching of
English as a Second Language. The lessons will contain materials and techniques
appropriate to learners of a specific age and language ability. You may choose
to analyze and prepare materials on any level: preschool ,primary,intermediate,
high school or adult. You will also learn what kinds of criteria can be used
to evaluate language textbooks.

Teaching pronunciation

Communicative language teaching

Psychological,political and economic considerations

11. Bilingual education
in ESL teaching
Evaluation will be based upon:
1.
A textbook evaluation
2.
A unit plan for ESL teaching
3.
Presentation of a lesson from your unit plan
4.
Participation in workshop activities
5. Mid-term quiz
6. End-of-term quiz
Letter grades will be given for each of the above assignments. All assignments
are worth the same weighting in your final grade. Assignments completed
unsatisfactorily( i.e. those receiving failing grades) may be resubmitted for
a maximum grade of C. Assignments must be submitted on time and if resubmitted,
must be handed in no later than one week after initial grading.

English as a Second Language/Dialect will be available for loan during the
course.
