PREREQUISITE:
60 hours of credit and an undergraduate linguistics course, such as Linguistics 100
or UBC's English 329 (Distance Education).
OBJECTIVES AND TOPICS
1.
Students will learn to develop English language and literature teaching units
based on themes appropriate for the age/grade level of the learners they
currently teach or hope to teach.
2.
Students will learn how to develop and implement lessons to teach the sound
system of English (phonology), the morphological systems of English
(derivational and inflectional), the syntax of English (tenses and some basic
clause structures), and the major discourse types in English (based on oral
language registers and literary genres).
3.
Students will learn how to adjust their teaching practices to fit the different
needs and interests of children, adolescents, and adults.
