PREREQUISITE: an undergraduate linguistics course (mandatory, pq exceptions
made)
This course serves as an introduction to current methods of teaching English as a
second language to children and adults. Students will learn to create lessons
appropriate for the grade level or age level they are teaching or plan to teach.
The professor teaching the course has written textbooks for TESL that are used in a
large number of countries around the world, including Canada, and has, herself, taught
English as a second language to children and adults in the Philippines, the U. S. A.,
The People's Republic of China and Canada.
Each class session will consist of a 2-hour lecture and a 2-hour workshop. Please
purchase your textbooks at the SFU Bookstore before the first class meeting, if at all
possible, because we will use them in the workshops from the first class session
onwards.
