    credit hours and a lower level linguistics course.
    The aim of this course is to expose students to the methods currently
    in
    use
    in Canadian, European and American schools for the teaching of
    English as a second or
    foreign
    language. The toipics covered are:
    1.
    Teaching Canadian English pronunciation
    2.
    Teaching English syntax
    3.
    Personality and language learning
    4. Approaches to teaching ESL: the Communicative Approach
    the Functional/Notional Approach
    5. Selection of materials:
    the use of themes in unit planning
    selecting themes appropriate for a given age-group
    6.
    Lesson planning: listening/speaking/reading/writing
    The progress of students in this course will be evaluated according
    to the following criteria:
    Assignment I --
    Pronunciation Lesson Plan (10% of grade)
    Test I -- Using Phonemic Transcription (30% of grade)
    Test II -- English Grammar (30% of grade)
    Assignment II --
    Unit Outline and Lesson Plans (30% of grade)
    Students will read materials placed on reserve in the library and ?
